FA-10 Electronic Piano

Bringing a warm vintage tone to your sample library collection.

About

One night upon visiting my local Guitar Center, I came across a interesting looking keyboard by Korg that was on clearance for $300. I had never seen this type of product before, as it looked old and had seen better days. Curious about it, I asked for it to be plugged in to test its sound. The first chords I played was an instant hit. I fell in love with the warm analog tone of the piano sound, with a lovely built in chorus knob that gave it so much character.

After doing some research on this instrument, it was Korg’s first attempt to create a keyboard that emulates the sound of a piano. However in 1980, there were many limitations on creating a realistic piano tone, as they were still using old subtractive synthesis to generate sounds on synthesizers. This instrument came before any sort of digital waveform or sample-based sound. The result of this first attempt was the Electronic Piano, a three-voice 61 key analog keyboard, with a 6-band EQ, 3 levels of sustain, a built in key transposer, and chorus. A simple design at first glance, but contains a warm and rich tone that gives a retro vibe to any recording.

Each note of this rare instrument was carefully sampled onto this sample library, featuring the original three tone generator, with both short and long decay. In addition to the original controls, more custom effects were added such as phaser, distortion, delay, and much more. This library is made to serve musicians and producers in obtaining warm analog textures to add to their projects.
